Introducing the Parquet Party pattern

The Parquet Party quilt pattern is a mix of some of my absolute favorite patchwork elements: log cabin block variation construction, oversized blocks, speedy construction, optical illusions, and multiple color options to choose from! So buckle up and let’s dive in and see what you can expect from the pattern.

quarter Cabin Blocks

I love all the different Log Cabin quilt block variations, but the Quarter Cabin block holds a special place in my heart! Its simple construction brings me so much joy and the asymmetry of the block makes it so much fun to play with. When you layer in different size “logs” it adds in an effortless extra visual twist without breaking the rhythm of construction – perfect for when I want to put the (foot) pedal to the metal and just sew, sew, sew!

Oversized quilt blocks

Anything that requires me to bring out my larger ruler counts as “oversized” for me, but at 16” the quilt blocks in Parquet Party aren’t unwieldy to work with. I love the large canvas they create: it’s so much fun to see the patchwork pattern quickly emerge on my design wall! With the 2” and 4” logs, you have more space to showcase your favorite fabrics and each block becomes a canvas for your artistic expression. No need to fuss with tiny pieces; the joy lies in the scale of your creation.

Speedy construction

Oversized plus quarter cabin quilt blocks means that these blocks come together in a snap! The pattern features two different block layouts, allowing you to really get into a rhythm sewing – it’s the perfect opportunity to chain piece your patchwork pieces and batch your steps (I don’t mind jumping up to go to my ironing board after every seam, but sometimes it’s nice to have a little break between sessions at the ironing board!).

Optical illusion

Take the asymmetrical layout of the Quarter Cabin block plus the variation in the size of the logs, add in two different block layouts, then mix in a quick rotation of your blocks and what do you get? An optical illusion that tricks your mind into thinking that there are squares layered on squares hiding under squares…you get the idea! All to say, this patchwork pattern packs a visual punch.

Two color variations

And perhaps the best part? Parquet Party is basically two patchwork patterns in one thanks to two complete set of fabric requirements and cutting instructions for the two different versions. Whether you want to play with four fabrics or two, you can dive in knowing that you’ll be able to optimize your fabric yardage.

Let’s start the party!

Sounds like fun? Pick up a copy of Parquet Party, dust off your sewing machine, pick your color palette (don’t forget to check out the digital coloring sheets over at PreQuilt to help you pick out your fabrics), gather your fabrics, and let the quilting magic unfold.

And then join the fun on social media: share your progress, your wild color combos, and your finished masterpieces using #ParquetPartyQuilt and tag me @broadclothstudio. See you on the (parquet) party dance floor!
