spotlight block

My take on the classic “corner beam” quilting unit, the spotlight block is a Foundation Paper Pieced template for the 2022 #StrictlyScrappyQAL. At first glance this shape is fairly simple, but with a little repetition plus a dash of rotation and (if you’re feeling especially adventurous) a sprinkle of swapping colors, this little shape provides so many different potential layouts to explore and play with!

Please note that this is a FPP template to make a single block. It was designed as part of a scrap-bin-stash-busting exercise and was meant to be used in a “see how far your scraps get you” and less of a “work backwards from a final quilt design” way. The template does not contain instructions or fabric requirements to make a quilt (though it does provide some layout ideas to help jumpstart the creative process).
