This QAL will be a little different than the usual: there will be no prizes or giveaways, just a weekly email with that week’s tasks broken down plus a whole ton of enthusiasm and civic zeal over on the ’gram.
It’s a big election year AND the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment. So this year, I’m going to not only exercise my right to vote, but I am going to celebrate my right to vote it in the best way I know how: a free quilt pattern and a quilt along!
The QAL Calendar
Here’s the breakdown of weeks: feel free to start now, join in later, wait to the last second to come aboard, or just follow along. Except for the voting part: if you can, do. Please.
- Week 1 (Oct. 4-10): download your pattern and gather your fabric
Week 2 (Oct. 11-17): cut out all your pieces and make your strip sets
- Week 3 (Oct. 18-24): cut your strip sets down to size and sew all your letter blocks
- Week 4 (Oct. 25-31): assemble your quilt top
- Halloween Weekend (Oct. 31-Nov. 1): share a picture of your quilt top
- Election Day (Nov. 3): GO VOTE (if you haven’t voted early)
Just Vote is a small throw (or a large crib size if you like) quilt pattern measuring 46” x 54”. Just Vote is an easy intermediate pattern. If you’re a fearless confident beginner who is happy in following your quilting gut and just going for it, I think you can definitely tackle it. But if you’re someone who wants or needs things to be precise and to-the-letter, this probably isn’t the pattern for you: there is wiggle room baked into the construction, but if you don’t like wiggle room that may be more annoying than helpful!
You'll need the following fabric:
- Fabric A + B (the accent colors of the letters): 1/4 yd.
- Background Fabric: 2 yds.
- Binding: 1/2 yd.
- Backing: 3-1/2 yds.
